We have incorporated a new way to make weekly dance classes affordable for all. With our new subscription service you won’t only receive one class in the style of your choice, but two! A technique and a performance class of your choice.
Starting from £25 a month (including all I-Path exam costs) SSPS isn’t just affordable, but the most professional class in Oxford.

Classical Ballet
Classical ballet is a dance style originating from Italy which later became a widespread and highly technical dance form with its own vocabulary. This dance style is renowned for the harmony of movements, grace and continuous effort to overcome the forces of gravity. Our students will be guided to learn the ballet technique appropriate for their age and will be encouraged to perform ballet routines.

Commercial
Commercial dance is a style seen in pop culture and on TV and film but is strongly rooted from Street and Hip-Hop dance which evolved in open air spaces such as parks, streets and nightclubs. It also encompasses styles including popping, locking, breaking and house. A large part of it is very improvisational and is very social in its nature, allowing for dancers to freely create their own style of movement that feels most comfortable for them.

Jazz
Jazz is a performance dance style that arose throughout the mid-20th Century when African American dancers began blending traditional African steps with European styles of movement. This then developed onto the jazz style we know today, allowing dancers to focus on their self-expression in performance as well as a strong technical foundation.

Tap
Tap dancing grew immensely throughout the 1930’s and 1940’s when Vaudeville performers took their skills into the world of cinema and Hollywood, gaining huge popularity thanks to dancers like Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Sounds are created through metal plates attached to the ball and heel of the dancer’s shoe, from which percussive sounds can be made to fit the song being danced too.
Our students will be provided with the skills to learn these movements and co-ordinate the body to create rhythmic patterns to songs of varying styles and genres. Incredibly fun yet challenging, we will also work on timing, syncopation, musicality, fitness and self-expression.

Contemporary
Contemporary dance is a dance style that has been developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the most popular genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world, with particularly strong popularity in the U.S. and Europe. It appears as a revolutionary dance idea in contrast to the strict principals of ballet dance. Pioneers of Contemporary dance are Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, José Limón.
